Calibration of the Golf Velocity

چکیده
The GOLF instrument operates through the detection of light scattered by sodium atoms in a cell in a uniform magnetic eld. See Gabriel et al. 1995,1997] for further details of the instrument and its operations. We discuss the conversion of the GOLF signals into a quantity which most closely resembles the velocity of the solar surface. The instrument was planned to be operating in a mode whereby the scattering points would alternate between the blue and red wings of the solar Na D line. Due to unreliable operations of the mechanisms rotating the optical components responsible for the wing selection, beginning April 11, 1966 GOLF has operated in the blue wing alone. Due to this modiied operation, the planned calibration of the signals to a velocity basis cannot be used and alternate methods have been developed. These methods are described and compared to the planned calibration utilizing data obtained during two-wing operations.

متن کاملPower spectra comparison between GOLF and spatially masked MDI velocity signals
The Global Oscillations at Low Frequency (GOLF) and the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) instruments aboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) give an excellent opportunity to search for solar low frequency oscillation modes previously undetected from ground based experiments. Presented here is a comparison of the velocity power spectra between the two instruments. In addition, this pa...
متن کاملMagnetic Calibration of Three-Axis Strapdown Magnetometers for Applications in Mems Attitude-Heading Reference Systems
In a strapdown magnetic compass, heading angle is estimated using the Earth's magnetic field measured by Three-Axis Magnetometers (TAM). However, due to several inevitable errors in the magnetic system, such as sensitivity errors, non-orthogonal and misalignment errors, hard iron and soft iron errors, measurement noises and local magnetic fields, there are large error between the magnetometers'...
متن کاملThe role of upper torso and pelvis rotation in driving performance during the golf swing.
While the role of the upper torso and pelvis in driving performance is anecdotally appreciated by golf instructors, their actual biomechanical role is unclear. The aims of this study were to describe upper torso and pelvis rotation and velocity during the golf swing and determine their role in ball velocity. One hundred recreational golfers underwent a biomechanical golf swing analysis using th...
متن کاملA new golf-swing robot model emulating golfer's skill
Conventional golf-swing robots are generally used to evaluate the performance of golf clubs and balls. Most of the robots have two or three joints with completely interrelated motion. This interrelation only allows the user of the robot to specify the initial posture and swing velocity, and therefore the subtle adjustments in swing motion that advanced golfers make according to the characterist...
